A slot paytable explains which combinations pay, how much they pay and which rules apply. Read it alongside the game rules, because identical-looking symbols and grids can work differently between games.
Start with the stake unit
Check whether a displayed payout is expressed as money, coins, a multiplier of the total stake or a multiplier of the line stake. These are not interchangeable. If 20 lines share a 1-unit total stake equally, each line stake is 0.05 units. A hypothetical 40-times line-stake payout would be 2 units; 40 times the total stake would be 40 units.
Some paytables update cash figures when the stake changes. Others keep multipliers fixed. Confirm which display you are reading before comparing numbers.
Find the winning pattern
A payline game usually requires matching symbols along specified paths, often starting from the leftmost reel. “Ways” games may accept matching symbols on consecutive reels without fixed lines. Cluster and pays-anywhere games use other arrangements. The exact minimum count, direction and adjacency rules matter.
For example, Pragmatic Play’s Sweet Bonanza documentation describes matching symbols anywhere and tumbling reels. This illustrates why a traditional payline assumption can be wrong; it is not a claim that this game is available on Felistra.
Read wild and scatter exceptions
A wild often substitutes for some symbols, but may not replace scatters or special symbols. A scatter may trigger a feature, pay separately or do both. Check the number required and whether positions matter. A symbol’s name alone does not establish its behaviour.
A simple reading exercise
Suppose an invented game pays 5 times total stake for four matching symbols on an eligible pattern. At a 0.40-unit stake the payout is 2 units. The net result for that spin is 1.60 units before any other outcomes. A payout of 0.20 units on the same stake would still be a net loss of 0.20, even if the screen celebrates it.
Finish with the feature rules
- Check whether multipliers apply to one combination, one tumble or the whole feature.
- Check whether a feature purchase or enhanced-bet option changes the actual cost.
- Read maximum-win rules and how overlapping wins are counted.
- Find the RTP for the selected game version and mode.
The paytable tells you how outcomes are paid, not when they will occur. A large maximum prize is not an estimate of likely winnings. If a rule remains unclear, stop and consult the game’s help before spending money.
